Livermore, California spends 51 weeks a year as a perfectly respectable wine town. Then the second full weekend of June arrives, and the whole place puts on boots. This is the gospel of that week, and the story of the sticker that says it best.
Born on a kitchen table.
A few years back, getting ready for the round-up party we throw a couple doors from the rodeo grounds, we made a joke bumper sticker: “God Bless 2nd Weekend in June.” If you've been in Livermore when the rodeo signs go up, that line says it all.
People wanted one. Then they wanted more, because everybody who's ever been here for that weekend feels exactly the same: for one week a year, Livermore is the best little town on the whole map, and you want to shout it from your bumper.
So we made a couple. The follow-up, “A Quaint Little Drinking Town With a Cowboy Problem” is cut from the same cloth: a love letter to the best weekend in the Tri-Valley, dressed up as a joke you can stick on a Yeti.

The Livermore Rodeo has been bucking since 1918, and has billed itself as the “World's Fastest Rodeo” since 1935. It lands on the second full weekend of June, every year, like clockwork and kettle corn.
By then the town has fully committed to the bit: a downtown parade, a BBQ mixer, the Cowgirl Luncheon, the Lil' Pardners Rodeo, a beloved statue that makes its annual appearance, and police on a mounted patrol. Reasonable adults locate their boots. It rules.
